Extension of Provisional or Written Permission

You will need an extension of Provision Permission or Written Permission if you wish to extend the time period for development works to be carried out.

Type of Permission When Permission Lapses When You Can Apply to Extend Permission
Provisional Permission (PP) 6 months from the day it was granted. 2 months before PP expires.
Written Permission (WP) 2 years from the day it was granted. 2 months before WP expires.

Approved developments that have not started construction and are on a site that is not affected by public schemes or planning studies will be given up to 2 extensions of WP to start construction (i.e. a total of 6 years from the day WP was granted).

Once foundation or piling works have been completed, further WP extension can be given as long as there is sufficient progress of construction works on site. You are advised to declare this on your EDAform for WP Extension with site photographs to show the completed works.
